Putin orders govt to reject some foreign software, equipment

PERM, Sep 8 (PRIME) -- Russian IT companies must switch to local software, or the government will not be able to use their products in some industries because of high security risks, President Vladimir Putin said on Friday.

“We need to push our developers forward. As to security, there are things that are crucially important for the government, for life support of certain industries and regions,” Putin said at a meeting with the information and communications cluster of the Perm Region, in central Russia.

“If you continue to bring in software and hardware in the current volumes all the time, the government would unavoidably tell you in some areas: you know, we can’t take it, because somewhere they’ll push the button and we’re cut off.”

It should not be the case not only in the military-connected industries, but also in power supply, the president said.
